The “padellone”, also called "bilancione", is a typical fishing hut with a balanced net used by fisherman during the low tides, fluvial areas, lagoons and coasts of Emilia Romagna.
The fishing technique in the padelloni is called “balance fishing”, with giant square nets that are immersed in the water and pulled out periodically to retain the catch.
The padelloni are a typical element of the territory of Emilia Romagna and a distinctive trait of the Po Delta. They can be found in all sorts of different shapes and sizes, with their big nets over the water. To see them, it is necessary to walk into the inland near the water and in the valley areas of the coastline.
In origin they were built as shelters for the fishermen and hunters of the city, simply built with wooden axes. Since the 50s they have developed into gathering and relaxing sites.
