The meeting point of our tour will be at the train station of Castel San Pietro Terme, a lovely town protected by the hills, set a 20-minute journey by train from Bologna. Among cultivated fields and harsh ravines, this territory is home to endless vineyards rows that yield high-quality wines such as the white Pignoletto and Trebbiano, and the red Sangiovese.
After a short briefing with your guide, you’ll leave the town behind and start riding on your e-bike towards the countryside, heading for the Umberto Cesari cellars. There is not just one possible route to get to the destination but rather many, more or less challenging. That’s why you and your group will be given the freedom of choosing one over the other, according to your needs. For instance, the most trained of you might want to ride on a 30-kilometre route with a 600-metre climb rise, while others might prefer a shorter and flatter ride of about 20 kilometres on tarmac, with only one climb at the end.
Whether you choose one option or the other, you’ll eventually get to the same destination. Once at the estate, Umberto Cesari's wonderful villa surrounded by 355 hectares of vineyards will be there to welcome you. The staff will show you around and explain the story behind the farm, founded in the ‘60s, a story made of love and passion for wine and its territory. The tour will then take you to the winemaking and aging cellars, and conclude with a tasting of some excellent wines.
On the way back to the train station you can either challenge yourself by riding uphill again or going down the hill on a flat road.
