Although the origin of the city goes back to the pre-Roman period, what makes it unique are the many and perfectly-preserved remains of the Byzantine period (400-600 A.D.) housing amazing mosaic decorations.
During the tour of Ravenna you will have the chance of admiring some examples of this wonderful art, in the company of a guide. The tour includes the combined ticket to 5 Unesco heritage sites, namely the Archiepiscopal Museum (Saint Andrew’s Chapel and ivory desk), Neonian Baptistry, the Basilica of Sant’Apollinare Nuovo, the Basilica San Vitale and the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, boasting a starry sky made of colourful mosaic tiles. Your guide will show you 3 of these monuments, and you'll then be able to visit the remaining ones at your ease.
The tour guide will then lead the way to other charming monuments of the city centre, such as Dante Alighieri’s Tomb, the famous Florentine poet buried in Ravenna in 1321, Piazza del Popolo square, and the 17th-century Palazzo Rasponi dalle Teste.
