Dozza is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Every second year, a very special event takes place in the city. Its name is "Biennale del Muro Dipinto" festival, during which many international artists are asked to paint the external walls of the buildings, so as to create an open-air gallery.
The meeting point of the tour is Castel San Pietro Terme’s railway station, easy to reach by regional train from Bologna. Here, you’ll meet your local mountain bike guide who will give you some suggestions about the required behaviour and safety rules to follow during the tour.
Riding through the countryside we'll first stop in Toscanella to admire the modern version of the “painted walls”. Afterwards, you’ll start your ride uphill towards the ancient hamlet of Dozza, where you’ll enjoy some free time. You may wish to visit its castle, the Rocca Sforzesca and the regional wine exhibition (Enoteca Regionale) where you can taste and buy any kind of regional wines, or just enjoy a stroll through its colourful centre.
And then, time for lunch! You'll taste a selection of local products, farm-to-table delicacies and local wines, and offer you vegan or vegetarian options on request. After lunch we’ll head back towards Castel San Pietro Terme’s railway station, choosing between two different routes: a short climb of about 2 km to get to Monte del Re, a natural terrace over the Po valley, or a shorter and flatter route.
