The modern concept of university starts taking its form in Bologna at the end of the 11th century, for the first time in the western world, when grammar, rhetoric and logic teachers started applying themselves to law.

Walk ‘n Ride’s bike tour of the University of Bologna - also known as Alma Mater Studiorum, the mother of all universities - will tell you about the history of this institution which is entwined in the lives of the greatest scientists and scholars.

Description

Hop on a bike and follow our guides to the most representative places of our culture and discover the characters who animated them, such as Dante and Petrarca, and scientists like Copernico, Galvani, Volta and Marconi.

The tour includes therefore a stop at the Palazzo dell’Archiginnasio, first and oldest seat of the university, built by Pope IV during the 16th century, which hosts the famous Anatomical Theatre; the current university district in Via Zamboni and finally the Tombs of the Glossatori, founding fathers of the law in the Middle Ages, adored by students and locals.

Dress code:
Casual, comfortable clothes and/or sportswear
During summer season sunscreen and a hat are recommended, as are gloves,scarves and a cap during winter season.
